Turns out I was wrong in my earlier Father’s Day post. A picture of my grandfather and his father does exist, and my dad was kind enough to send along a copy.

Here, circa 1910-11, is the Blumenau family unit that made this blog, and a bunch of other things, possible.
That’s my grandfather William in the arms, or hands anyway, of his father Wilhelm. At left is his mother, Pauline, who lived to be 107 and who is overdue to get her own post on this blog. (It will happen. We’ve got time.)
Note the baby-dress on my grandpa. There were no cutesy “Grandma Spoils Me Rotten” onesies then.
I also like my great-grandfather’s expression. He genuinely seems to be beaming. Of course, that could also be a function of his upturned ‘stache.
